Some mysteries may never be uncovered. One of which is the question: “How do I make a good song?” I have had songs I dislike receive really positive feedback from listeners and that’s forced me to wonder, do I really know what a good song is? Like can I adapt and account for the tastes of everyone who might listen to my music? No of course not. I am learning to trust the process more and more because it really allows you to creatively push yourself and to get yourself improving in your craft. If you’re just trying to fill a gap you’ve determined in the scene or genre, you may also inadvertently leave yourself with no other higher purpose than to fill this void you have identified. Try to create with some kind of intention. Not telling anyone how to do their thing. More like advising you to take your ideas to their logical conclusions, don’t compromise your vision because of some expectation. There is often a difficult place we all arrive at where we want to compare our ideas with those that are already present and are successful. But in reality we don’t really know what Is possible or not until we do it or see it. How many times were you in class thinking of saying an answer but then keeping quiet for fear that you will be wrong, only to have somebody else put their hand up and say exactly what you were thinking. Or an idea you may have had that you didn’t give any effort, only to see a version of it executed elsewhere, It is up to you to jump on that rocket that you built. No sense jumping off before you see how high it can go.
