- What are the challenges and rewards of being an independent musician? Challenges are doing everything yourself, there sing as much off a team behind you so you have to figure things out by yourself or at least find the help for it. Sometimes it can be hard to know what kind of help you need to find in the first place. This challenge reaps its own reward though, because you learn a lot about how to make music and how to fail, you cant be independent without being able to take failure and rejection. So while you generally have a steeper hill to climb as an independent artist, you also have the ability to learn things that those with more help didn’t have to learn. This results in you being a better musician and you can better accomplish your goals and gain experience with which to get your vision achieved in the most accurate way.
- What advice would you give to other independent musicians? Keep at it, and also don’t underestimate the value of failing. I made songs that I thought were so bad but now I don’t even think of them at all. I have made so much that I like all because I was able to continue making music even though I wasn’t seeing the results that I wanted. There are many people out there who like your music you just have to be able to find them. Keep sharing your music and they will come.
- What are your goals for the future of your music career? My goal is to be able to live off music, I know the common knowledge is that it’s hard but really it is just something that takes a lot of time. YouTubers don’t tend to see amazing growth until they’ve uploaded maybe 100 videos and throughout that process they are learning how to get better and more efficient. They build a back catalog of songs and information that their users can go back on and enjoy.
- What are some of your favorite sneakers and fashion brands? Lacoste is one of my favourite, I always love Jordans, nike, Adidas Stan smith are a staple. I also have some really trippy shoes by a brand called Javi from the us, MAJOR COOL SHOES.
- What are your thoughts on the moon and UFO news? Hearing about people sending probes to the far side of the moon is so interesting to me, I’m keen to see what people discover about our solar system and our closest neighbour, we see it almost every night and we know basically nothing about it, madness. The UFO topic is hotting up, people like David Grusch are talking about congressional hearings and I’m very keen to see what comes out of that. I’ve always thought they are real so I wonder if we will be able to get some definitive knows about it soon.
- What are some of your favorite resources for learning about mastering and independent musicianship? I use a lot of Native instruments gear so I am a part of their online community, huge forum with loads of advice and tutorials. Youtube is also a big help. Asking producers online people in comments of production posts is also a good way to go. I have also found a huge amount of help in trying to make a song and then if you feel stuck, look for a tutorial on that aspect of your workflow. So if I was looking for a bassline and couldn’t think of anything, I would look at tutorials for mixing bass or making bass sounds and usually something in those videos or posts usually stands out for me and I am able to make some progress. Sometimes taking a break and playing video games or doing something totally different can also help!!
